A Full Day On Set of 'The Buccaneers' Season 2, From Makeup to Filming
Released on 08/07/2025
Hello, allure.
We are the cast of 'The Buccaneers'.
Welcome to the set of season two.
Come on. Come on.
Come!
[upbeat music]
We're at Tintagel Castle right now.
Yeah. Where the duke
and the duchess reside.
We do a lot of carriage work here
and our horseman work so hard.
[Alisha] Good old, Dave. Yeah.
He's great. Are we carrying on up here?
Look at how fierce this is,
this is to protect them from the rain
and the way that this is Muglare. [chuckles]
It kind of is.
John Galliano And you're kind of slaying.
There's about 10 pounds of
padding on her booty.
It's hefty. Really?
As you walk away we look like little granny.
Oh!
It's like an old woman I know, it's...
[Josie] It's, it's hard to walk in these dresses.
[Alisha] It is.
I mean, I don't know why
any woman would do this to themselves.
Well I think they were forced to.
They were.
That's the point of our show.
[gentle instrumental music]
Today we're filming the scene
where we all get to the finale
ball.
We're arriving to Nan's ball that she sent out
invitations for.
[Alisha] Yeah. High stakes, load of drama.
Nan- There's just been some...
Big bombshell that was
found out by Nan. Yeah.
It's giving demure. Yeah.
Very demure. Juicy.
[classical music]
Okay, so we just got kicked out.
They were filming.
This is the Tintagel room,
many parties have happened here.
Conchita had a very traumatizing,
one of many traumatizing moments
in this room.
You think the Lord's aren't interested in my iguana?
Nor your snoring, nor your itchy head,
nor your fear of children.
Cora, why the sabotage? There were no thunderbolts!
It's her first time
trying to execute her plan of being a matchmaker
and
her first client just completely sabotages it,
and that happened in this very room.
And there's a lot of men on the walls.
Lot of men,
[Alisha] Lot of portraits.
Okay, let's carry on with the tour.
[Alisha laughs]
Okay, let's go.
Woo! Where are we going?
[upbeat music]
[Alisha] Hello. This is the staircase.
Steeped in the- And we're just
casually walking down. We actually have a lot
of time spent in this staircase.
Josie
slid down these.
One would say I tumbled
and
got in trouble for it. I,
I, sort of, was yelled at for falling.
This is my masquerade look, it's very green.
It's got some black mesh.
Lucy Rowley does my hair and makeup and she is
just a gem, and we love our hair and makeup team.
[Josie] We love them. They are just heaven.
I remember
talking to Jenny,
who's our designer this year, and being like,
Mabel needs to get hotter.
It's time for her to just, like, be a bit sexier.
Alisha always makes fun of me because
I always end up, like, with more makeup.
[Imogen] Bulby. And Bulby by the end of it.
Like, I always sneak in- No need, I'm jealous.
I'm jealous. Sneak,
sneak in like a lip liner or something
but now I don't have to sneak it as much anymore
because I feel like they,
they're giving it to us.
This makeup look is by the wonderful Ivy Richards
and it's very gothic.
[Imogen] And you've got big hair.
Oh, yeah, the hair as well,
she does my hair as well and I've got great big hair.
That was the tour.
Thanks, allure!
Woo!
[chill instrumental music]
I'm Kristine Froseth and I play Nan St. George.
Hi, I am Jenny Rhodes-McLean
and I am the hair and makeup designer
on 'Buccaneer' season two.
Today we're getting ready for the masquerade ball.
Nan, obviously in season one, I think,
we were going for more tomboy.
She had short hair, she,
she didn't wanna
be, I guess, what a woman was supposed to be,
you know, she didn't wanna embrace
that feminine side of herself
but this time around,
you know, she's a duchess now, so things
have had to change and Jenny's had great
ideas of how that,
that keeps evolving throughout, so.
I think there's been,
like, a natural evolution
of
Nan's look
and then I think there's also,
like Nan's so smart,
she's now playing the game.
She's now realizing
that
beauty can also mean power.
She's using her beauty to, kind of, influence
and do good in the world and,
and help herself out over a couple of
situations.
I love sticking to period correct silhouettes
but then having
fun with
the texture
and having fun with the finer details.
So as long as the silhouette feels period correct,
I like to, kind of, then play around with everything else.
And then,
I love looking at
family portraits.
Oh? 'Cause-
I didn't even know that.
She does her research! [Jenny chuckles]
You should have seen the, like,
you should have seen the stack of books.
What's really interesting about this show is that
we're late Victorian but you start to see some really
cool Edwardian influences by the end of the season
and actually things changed
such a lot between the Victorian period
and the Edwardian period.
The shapes of the hair change, the silhouettes change,
there's softer waves,
we've used that a lot in the show
to, kind of, elevate the looks and
see where
fashion forward characters are, kind of, heading.
[chill instrumental music]
One of the things
that is the most important as a skin prep is hydration
and drinking water, which this girl is fantastic at.
We love the agua.
We both love to start our days with electrolytes.
We do.
With the same brand of electrolytes.
Yeah.
We knew this was gonna, we were gonna be fine
when we started, when we pulled out
the same brand of electrolytes.
That's when we knew! That's when we knew
Yeah, it was gonna be okay.
[Jenny] It's LMNT.
Highly recommend. Not sponsored.
[Jenny] Yeah. This is
my favorite thing.
[Jenny] This lights up the whole room. Yeah.
This season I've used
Kosas so much. Love Kosas.
It is
so beautiful, so buildable.
I feel like it has kept everyone's
skin so clean and clear.
It's really hydrating.
Yeah. I always break out
and I haven't broken out once because of it.
[Jenny] Yeah, I think it's,
and it looks beautiful on camera as well.
e.l.f lash extender mascara, I swear by.
Love this mascara. Yeah.
Where it's a tubing mascara and it's in brown,
which is quite difficult to, to find.
For filming as well, it just helps so much
'cause they have to wear it for so long and,
you know, we have crying scenes but sometimes
waterproof mascara can be too harsh.
We also need the ability for it to come
on and off quite quickly.
This is another favorite product.
[Jenny] Which is, this one is in
Greek, so. [laughs]
This is Homeoplasmine.
I wanna say that I'm saying that right.
It's my favorite lip balm of all time.
[Jenny] But it's, kind of, like a medicated lip balm,
it's so good, like it is so good for you.
It's got, kind of, like healing properties in it
and not just petroleum.
[chill instrumental music]
[Kristine] I think
the masquerade ball is actually my favorite look.
It really
shows
her internal
space.
It's,
kind of, also the complete opposite of her wedding look,
which I think is really cool.
She is so lost and scared but she's also so
strong and she's, kind of, letting out her fierceness
and it's, kind of, gothic and emo and I love it.
Yeah. And and I love
that Jenny was
leaning into
the emo aspects of it.
[Jenny] Yeah?
Like the dark lip.
She goes through so much
and I feel like she's always there for people
and she, kind of, handles everything so well but
I think it's nice to see her tap into her dark inner
energy.
[chill instrumental music]
[Jenny] This season,
for a multitude of reasons,
we've gone longer.
One, it was
to show a time jump,
we cut to by quite a few months.
I think it was also to just show
how Nan's
grown and how her looks been elevated.
This piece was made
to minimize time in the chair but also
to make sure that the curls were duchess perfect
and
that we could set it off of Kristine's
head and also so that we could
weave in
these really delicate beads throughout,
they're all stitched in.
This hair is needed to,
kind of, last for days and days on end.
This piece gets individually set and then
put in the wig oven for
almost 12 hours,
so that these curls will be perfect for the whole day.
[Kristine] Well this is the finished look
for the masquerade ball
and this is actually my favorite look.
This is Nan's darker side and she's ready for war.
And I just, I just love the energy and how it makes me feel.
Well I'm headed to set, so thank you so much allure.
