I've never been in drag before,

but in this video, I was.

Hi, I'm Mariah Carey,

and I will be breaking down some

of my most iconic music video looks.

♪ And it's just like honey ♪

♪ Comes over me ♪

That was me talking in the beginning of the music video

because they couldn't get a voiceover person,

and so I just went in the studio and did it.

So, Honey is definitely one of my favorites

that I've done.

Serge Normant and Laura Mercier

did the makeup for the first go round.

So, Serge and Laura kinda created the looks.

Joe Zee was the stylist.

He put together these looks like the one on the jet ski

and the white bandeau top and little skirt

and the one on the beach that was kind

of like a sandy brown.

I love, I love this one.

I love the hairdos that they did, you know, all of it.

Those little Gucci shoes.

We knew we were gonna do a couple different looks,

and one of them would be the smoky eye, you know,

kind of a smoky eye.

And I loved it.

This is, like, so much fun to have done.

Even though I did the jet skis myself,

like I was actually on the jet ski

running from the bad guys.

It was fun to film, but, like, when we were in that boat

and the gangsters were chasing and trying to find me

and all that, it was, like, five in the morning,

so we did two days of a lot of work.

I had no idea the impact the song would have

on the genre or my career, any of it.

So, actually, we had to make it look

like it was on Super 8,

but it was filmed on, like, regular video camera.

So then we just, you know,

made it look even more, like, authentic film

back-in-the-day vibes.

That's my dog, Jack.

He could jump really high.

It was just like a sweater and jeans.

It wasn't, like, a whole bunch of ensembles,

except when I'm outside in the red suit, which I still have.

For the cover of this album,

it's like a Santa suit, like a long Santa suit.

Someone asked me like,

Do you still have that one?

I'm like, Yeah, I use the same one every year. [laughs]

It was definitely not chic and effortless

to film in the snow.

I was freezing in a tiny little Santa suit ensemble.

My hair froze, like it was actually frozen hair.

I'm not even exaggerating.

The two braids, I did my own hair for that,

and I think 'cause this were two different days,

that was my makeup job as well.

But on the other day, we had Billy and Syd.

So, this video, Always Be My baby, was filmed at my camp.

It's called Camp Mariah,

and it's a camp for part of The Fresh Air Fund

and for underprivileged kids,

so we just brought the kids out there and shot the video

there inside one of the little houses that they have.

And then I got on my tire swing,

going back and forth over the water.

I was just figuring out my hair situation,

so in this video, it's kind of like curly

with the bang, that's a swoop bang.

I don't know.

I was figuring out how to get that together.

And just in, like, dark jeans and a dark jean top.

It wasn't, like, very glamorous,

but, you know, we brought people there,

we kinda had a little party, and it was fun.

I do enjoy directing my own music videos,

but sometimes, it's best to have somebody there

that that's all they do and they're gonna be focused

on the completion of the video, making sure it's right.

It's just easier to do it now.

There seem to be more things I have to do,

and so that's what we kind of lean towards.

It was my 18th number one record.

and Jack from 30 Rocks name came up, and I was like,

Oh my gosh, that would be amazing.

So, he joined up with us and he just made the comedy easy

Meryl Streep's always looking for Demarchelier.

Did Demarchelier confirm?

Did, did Demarchelier-

It took a long time to do both ensembles,

and then we had that outfit that was different.

This video and the video It's Like That

were both filmed within, you know, few days of each other,

and we wanted to make them starting a story

and ending a story.

Eric Roberts was kinda like playing the bad guy,

so if you watch the It's Like That video,

you see that Eric Roberts is kind of like,

There's something going on.

We don't know what it is.

He's the bad guy.

So, Wentworth Miller there, he was playing the young guy

that I was wanting to be with instead of getting married

and all the stuff that's going on here.

We actually really did the shower scene.

I wasn't, like, nude or whatever,

but we wet my hair and just used makeup that was waterproof.
